Bad Breath: It Isn’t Just For Humans

It’s true that nobody wants to offend anyone else with their breath, and nobody wants to smell someone else’s atrocious breath. We spend our days brushing, flossing and gargling mouthwash. The sale of gum and mints has gone through the roof in the last few decades, and there are even products on the market that are specifically targeted to people with chronic bad breath. Everything from pills to special tools promise to get rid of your bad breath problems once and for all.
We are all so concerned with our own breath that we sometimes forget certain members of our families who may have even worse breath than ours! Of course I’m talking about the family dog. How many times have you bent down to talk to your dog and been taken aback by their breath. Sure, they eat dog food, and dog food isn’t exactly made out of the finest ingredients, but that doesn’t mean your dog’s breath has to smell like it! Helping Fido out with a dental chew toy every now and then could greatly improve his or her breath, and keep you from pulling away every time they get close to you.
While your dog’s diet may be to blame for their bad breath, there are a few more sinister reasons for offensive breath. Oftentimes, a dog’s bad breath can be caused by poor dental hygiene. We all know that you can’t just brush a dog’s teeth the same way that you brush your own, but there are lots of great chew toys and other products that will help keep your dog’s teeth clean and free of odor causing bacteria and plaque. They can also help prolong your pet’s life, as poor dental hygiene can lead to serious heart problems and other problems in the family pet. So, keeping your dog’s breath fresh can actually help to keep him healthy longer!
