Toddlers and Bad Breath
Oral health is an important part of overall health, and good oral health starts with an early prevention as the child’s first line of defense against plaque, cavities and bad breath sets in. From the time your child is born, this is also the time that you start promoting a healthy set of dentition for them.
Toddlers most especially are being prone to having bad breath because of lack of oral hygiene practice. They are not yet introduced to this kind of habit as it is the duty of the parents to take care of them. Their teeth are still developing at this stage and temporary teeth are more susceptible to bacterial invasion as milk is their number one nourishment at this age. Milk is a very good nourishment for bacteria too since it easily sticks to the surfaces of the teeth as their host.
In teaching your toddlers about good oral hygiene you need to start cultivating the habit from the beginning so that they will always be reminded about the importance of staying and being clean at all time.
Start by teaching them the correct way of brushing their teeth. Remind and teach them that keeping the teeth away from germs and infection is necessary for their long and healthy life. Encourage them to brush their teeth from morning and evening so that there is no way they could get infected.
Causes of bad breath in toddlers include:
The food particles that trapped on the teeth and mouth of your toddler. It may increase the growth of bacteria that can cause bad breath most especially in other cases that your toddler may have an infected tooth. Toddlers play a lot and by the end of the day at night time they get tired or timid to go to the sink and brush their teeth. This is then the onset of bacterial invasion and plaque growth.
Things or objects that they put in their mouth may contain numbers of bacteria.
Sinus problem. Toddlers are most likely to play with other kids playing around with their toys but the problem sets in if your toddler has a weak immune system. He can then easily get infected with volatile virus or bacteria in his surroundings. Sinus problems sets in when there is presently a simple cough or flu bet left untreated. It could affect the way your child breathes and when the virus multiply, certain odorous smell comes out in the nose or mouth of your children.
Do not have enough fluid in their mouth. Make sure that your toddler is getting enough fluid to keep away from being dehydration. Dry mouth is one of the main factors of halitosis and it does not moisturize the mouth and prevent bacterial growth.
Poor oral hygiene. Teach your toddler the right techniques in taking care of her/ his oral health. Make sure that you are always at their side when they want to do it by themselves to check if they are doing it correctly. When they gain dexterity towards toothbrushing, you can then teach them how to floss and later on introduce them the use of mouth rinses (use those which are of low concentration for kids).
P.S. This is the proven method I recommend to my friends and readers. Read testimonials from previous sufferers.
