Bad Breath Myths
The primary cause of bad breath is bacteria. There are of course, things, which can make bad breath worse, such as eating foods that are acidic or which have sulfur compounds. It can also be caused by dry mouth, poor health or by poor hygiene habits.
There are many remedies for bad breath. And there are also some myths about bad breath, which should be dispelled. One myth is that mouthwash can rid you of bad breath. It does of course help, but only temporarily. Some mouthwashes, which contain a large percentage of alcohol, can actually dry the mouth and made bad breath worse. The best products to look for are those, which have an ADA (American Dental Association) seal on the label. Those products will usually contain an antiseptic to kill germ-causing bacteria; they may also have compounds to reduce plaque.
Another myth is that brushing your teeth every day will help you to avoid the embarrassment of bad breath. And absolutely brushing your teeth helps, but some people do not know how to brush properly; brushing for sixty seconds or less is not really very effective. For the maximum benefit, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day for at least two minutes. Be sure that you remember to brush your tongue too. Flossing is also a great way to be sure that you remove any food particles or plaque that sticks between your teeth.
If is also a myth that you will be able to tell if your breath is bad if you breath into your hand and smell the air. You might get an idea, but most of the time the odor from bad breath comes from the back of your mouth, toward your throat. Simply breathing into your hand will not bring air from that area out. Another problem is that we are not usually able to smell our own odor, we are too used to ourselves. So sadly, we are often the last to know.
P.S. This is the proven method I recommend to my friends and readers. Read testimonials from previous sufferers.
